about

This song is about systemic racism and the part that myself/we as white folks take part in - I wrote this song to racism deniers, and in reflection of my own navigations. This song is free for anyone who wants it because I do not want to appropriate - I want to share that the greater power than the white patriarchy is the Earth Mother.

lyrics

I saw a picture of bodies on the news
pigments of their faces
and the anger in the wounds
we have covered
'cause its easy to ignore if you have got the power
and it's easy to reject if you have only ever been the oppressor

we will only see when its our son or our daughter
we will only feel if it's our sister or our brother
but it's more than a screen -
it's human beings and we can turn off the TV
but we can't block out the screaming

'Cause the Earth Mother
cries for the pain of her children
lying on her land
and the Earth Mother
aches for the blood of her children
as she holds them in her hand.

We say that we're not racist but then diminish the experience
of people that don't look like us
would you get it if you were there? would you open up your eyes
if you had no place to hide...
'Cause the cities and the sidewalks try to cover up the earth
but the power that you have
to dust it will return

'Cause the Earth Mother
cries for the pain of her children
lying on her land
and the Earth Mother
aches for the blood of her children
as she holds them in her hand.

The faces of this system are bathed in white
but the colors of injustice are creating a light that will blind you...
the laws of this nation and the stories we've created
are a culture of suppression of non-caucasian
and the cities and the sidewalks try to cover up the earth
but the power you've abused to DUST it will return...

'Cause the Earth Mother
cries for the pain of her children
lying on her land
and the Earth Mother
aches for the blood of her children
as she holds them in her hand.
